The 16th Annual Nantucket Fall Arts Festival will take place beginning Labor Day weekend (August 29) on Nantucket and will run through September 7.The Festival will showcase the creative talents of many talented Nantucketers– from talented local photographers, painters, weavers and musicians to Nantucket High School students, who will be staging a premiere of a creative video project they have been working on for the past year. It will truly be a celebration of the diversity and extraordinary talent found on the island today.
The Arts Council expects to attract over 4,000 participants throughout the Festival starting with the busy Labor Day weekend. We will be promoting the Festival and our sponsors through advertising and publicity in Nantucket and Cape media, as well as our Nantucket Arts Council monthly e-newsletter. We also will be producing a printed program in a quantity of 6,000 to be distributed free all over the island.
For more information about sponsorship or advertising opportunities, contact Nantucket Arts Council Director of Development Linda Sonnonstine at development@nantucketartscouncil.org or (508) 228-7892.

The Art Season on Nantucket starts in earnest this weekend with the Artists Association of Nantucket’s Sidewalk Art Show.
The Sidewalk Art Show was founded in 1930 by the illustrator and painter Maud Stumm as an outdoor exhibition originally sited along the walls of Nantucket Atheneum. The show was open to all artists, professional or amateur and was a resounding success, drawing hundreds of visitors. Of the original show The Inquirer and Mirror reviewer wrote:
“The wide shady walk by the library was an ideal place to examine and discuss Art and the beauty of Nantucket, which was the principal subject of the oil, water-color, black and white studies displayed. Little children, tourists, sailors, townspeople came again and again, eagerly examining the varied aspects of the Island, and deciding which was truest to life.”

Our tip for the Earth Day project this year on Nantucket is the Wave of Change - a community Arts project brought to you by Sustainable Nantucket.
The Wave of Change is a large-scale sculpture created out of recycled materials, mounted on a boat trailer by volunteers from the Sustainable Nantucket Green Council, and then covered with whimsical, colorful sea creatures and environmental slogans created by the children of our community.
The Wave is designed not only to raise the awareness of the participants - but also to impact and engage additional members of the community through highly visible placement around town before and after Earth Day 2008.
