Gene Mahon has posted some great photos from the Artists Association of Nantucket’s Sidewalk Art Show this weekend.

“Nathaniel Philbrick’s In the Heart of the Sea is a spellbinding true account of the whaleship “The Essex,” which was maliciously attacked and sunk by a sperm whale in 1820. Poor leadership and the islander’s own ignorant arrogance led the 20-man crew to set out in three, tiny open crafts over 3,000 miles to a port. After 93 grueling days, only 8 survived to be rescued, after battling three courageous months of incredible suffering, discipline, and the cruel pranks of the savage seas.”

As we all know great art and craft is not limited to Art Galleries nowadays (nor was it ever). A great place to find creatives under your nose on Nantucket is Tumblr. Tumblr is a blogging platform that allows users to post text, images, video, links, quotes, and audio to their tumblelog, a short-form blog. Users are able to “follow” other users and see their posts together on their dashboard. Users can “like” or “reblog” posts from other blogs on the site.
