“Nathaniel Philbrick’s In the Heart of the Sea is a spellbinding true account of the whaleship “The Essex,” which was maliciously attacked and sunk by a sperm whale in 1820. Poor leadership and the islander’s own ignorant arrogance led the 20-man crew to set out in three, tiny open crafts over 3,000 miles to a port. After 93 grueling days, only 8 survived to be rescued, after battling three courageous months of incredible suffering, discipline, and the cruel pranks of the savage seas.”

Michael Rich is showing some stunning landscape works inspired by Nantucket at the A.R.C Gallery in Fairfield, CT from January 14 – February 10, 2010.
